Sonny Rollins
Theodore Walter (Sonny) Rollins is an American jazz musician, born on September 7, 1931, in Woodstock, New York. After initially intending to take piano lessons—which he never actually took—he switched to the tenor saxophone in 1944. He started at age eleven and was already playing with Thelonious Monk before he turned twenty. He passed away on May 25, 2026.

Way Out West
This double LP contains six tracks. The title is derived from the final song, which was composed by Sonny himself. It includes a number of songs selected by Sonny that are not immediately associated with jazz—precisely the reason they were chosen. Alongside Sonny—who was 26 at the time (1957) and a rising star—two legends perform on the record: Ray Brown and Shelly Manne.

Review
Without getting too technical, UHQR stands for "Ultra High Quality Record." The production method is based on the original UHQRs manufactured by JVC in Japan. The five key features are: a flat profile (the thickness remains constant from the center to the outer edge, unlike standard LPs which taper in thickness); superior production quality with consistent molding patterns; transparent vinyl resulting in less surface noise; and enhanced protection through superior packaging and quality control.
How does it sound? I believe this is the best audio quality achievable on vinyl.
