Bobby Hutcherson
Bobby is born in Los Angeles on January 27, 1941. Bobby Hutcherson was an American jazz vibraphonist. He started on the piano but later switched to vibraphone. In terms of style, it is striking. No broken chords, no vibrato and he rarely used the pedal and thus short tones.
The kicker
The kicker is not the first album for Blue Note that was reserved for Dialogue. The then boss of Blue Note, Alfred Lion, has left the recording aside so far (from 1963 to 1999). We can only guess why. This is the first self-released LP that we had to wait 36 years for.
Review
Solid Blue Note recording. Bobby Hutcherson's vibraphone splashes out of the speakers.
It goes without saying that Rudy van Gelder signed for this lively recording from 1963.
Mastered from the original analog tapes.
