Description
Big Ben Webster
Ben Webster was born in Kansas City on March 27, 1909. From 1963 he lived alternately in Copenhagen and Amsterdam. Ben Webster passed away in Amsterdam on September 20, 1973.
Ben Webster played on a French Selmer Balanced Action from 1939, the year before he joined Duke Ellington's orchestra. He called this tenor saxophone Ol'Betsy.Old Betsy
The name refers to the Selmer Balanced Action that Ben Webster played on. This LP contains 10 titles with many pieces by Duke Ellington. In terms of technique, it looks like he blows more past the mouthpiece than into it. In addition to Ben Webster, Dick Katz will play piano, Alan Haven on hammond, Spike Heatly on bass and Tony Crombie on drums.Review
Like all other STS Records recordings, this is also an open recording. Detailed and a nice broad internship. The basis is formed by the original analog master tape. the DMM comes from Gunther Pauler.
